Description:

Palmitopamba's site, only 10 minutes Nanegal, occupies a hill high near the village of the same name. Discovered in 1984 by Dr. Ronald Lippi during an archaeological survey of western Pichincha province, the site was an important ceremonial center for a chiefdom Yumbo and then served as a military outpost of the Incas exchange. The Yumbo, the indigenous people of this region (900 - 1700 AD) built a tola (a mound artificial ground) large platform on top and changed the slope of the land to create a series of wide terraces. Traders and troops arrived Palmitopamba Incas to late 1400 or early 1500 and built their own structures on the site. The Yumbo and Inca cohabited in Palmitopamba perhaps for many years. Dr Lippi, Alejandra Gudino and a team of Ecuadorian and American archaeologists have been excavating the site since 2002, now they are preparing to welcome tourists with support from the Butler Foundation, Foundation and community Maquipucuna. The site offers a walk surrounded by natural vegetation rise, and once on top of a spectacular view of the valley Pichincha Volcano and Guayllabamba River plains. It expects to open the site to the public in 2008.
